Dr. Yolanda Ho
Dr. Ho most characterizes herself as a lifetime learner, which spills into fields of clinical work, research, academia, and professional leadership. Growing up in a family of educators, she was always taught, “Information accrued only lends itself to more questions asked.” This constant desire to learn undergirths her heart for patient education, which she believes sustains treatment outcomes and maintains dental health. As someone who did not grow up with exposure to proper dental care as a child, she personally holds great dental phobia for herself. This dental fear translates to deep empathy for patients that share the same anxiety, and she partners with patients in helping them take charge of their own dental journeys.
Her drive for excellence has been a throughline in her dental journey, and recognized as such, by her peers. She has served as class president in dental school at the University of California, San Francisco; chief resident in Tufts School of Dental Medicine; and President Elect of the local Washington County Dental Society in Oregon.
In research, she has competed on an international level, winning 2nd place in the International Academy of Dental Research’s Sarnat Craniofacial Biology Group Award for her work on aberrant fgfr2 signaling in mice. She won 1st place in the Interdepartmental Research Day and Outstanding Contributions to Dental Research, the highest distinction for research on a graduate level, while in residency with work on silver diamine fluoride and periodontal pathogens, which was published the following year.
In terms of patient care, she has been recognized with the Portland Top Dentist Award. However, while working in private practice, she felt a continuous pull towards dental education and moved back to Boston to take up a teaching post in her Alma Mater, Tufts School of Dental Medicine. She thrives in this space, enjoying the practice of teaching dental students and residents on how to carefully consider while diagnosing and treating their patients.
From a technical perspective, Dr. Ho is well versed in bone and gum-tissue grafts, implant placement, bone grafting in preparation for implant placement (ridge augmentations, sinus lifts, etc), osseous resective surgeries, and guided tissue regeneration. You’ll often see her with her camera, snapping clinical photos to best record and plan for your treatment judiciously.
Her hopes are to continue striving for excellence in patient clinical care, expanding dental education and dental health—and, maybe sharing a laugh or two while in the chair together with you.
